Teen Titans Go to the Movies...DC's Answer to Infinity War

What? Did you expect me to be competent at posting??  If so, you've, sadly, got the wrong blog. As some who aspires to be a writer/filmmaking, I should be posting more frequently. But I don't  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Speaking of competence, today's post is about Teen Titans Go to the Movies. Yes, I'm embarrassed that I went too. The movie's based on a crude recreation of an AWESOME cartoon that I watched as a kid. And for those youngsters who don't know ( and aren't reading this. Let's be honest, no one is), the Teen Titans were cool. Like, legitimately cool. Like, Robin wasn't a whiny wuss who begged for authority, his cool-self took the position as leader himself and earned it. But Alas, there was a free screening.

I'll admit, there was enough wit in the advertising to intrigue me. And enough to horrify me. Example: Because if Aquaman can get a movie...anyone can.  Brilliant. Hysterical. Self-aware, condescending, and anti-Aquaman. Love it.  And Nicholas Cage as the voice of Superman?? For those not in the know, Nic Cage was originally supposed to play Superman in a film titles Superman Lives before the project was canceled. There's actually a doc all about it, called The Death of Superman Lives. As someone who's not a big doc fan, I recommend it. (look at that, 2 reviews in 1. Lucky you)

Even with this wit,  the show and the movie both have a style that insults the intelligence of all who watch it. But with wit like this occasionally brought in...maybe its more intelligent than it leads on...

And the answer is...It's both.

Pop it?: There is some glorious humor such as the example described. Perhaps even the crude humor is used in irony. There are some hysterical moments that I want everyone to see. It's a shame that the rest of it has to be sat through for the occasional gold nugget. Part of me wants to share some to give you a taste, and the other wants to tell you them all to spare you from the rest of it. With some things taken out, the humor reaches the level of wit I love (and hardly get to) see. Not to mention that the colors are very pleasing in the animation. And there is something to be said about a 2D animated feature being in theatres these days...even if it is done with flash rather than traditional.

Toss it?:  Sometimes this film is ATROCIOUS! Obviously this film embarrasses me. The can that I could physically feel the embarrassment. ME. This girl has little to no shame. But I couldn't help but hope I wasn't going to run into anyone I knew. Some of the humor was belittled and crude,  as if it assumed the only thing that could make you laugh was prolonged fart jokes and trippy annoying song sequences. (Yes. They Sing. The kind of singing that causes you to cringe in a fashion that you would rather hear anything else. ANYTHING).  The humor in this movie reaches lows that will make anyone with any self-respect feel the need to call a hotline.

The Verdict: It is absolutely baffling how far on opposite ends of the spectrum the humor in this movie goes. I hope the poor humor is meant ironically, and not a result of inbreeding. Without these bits, the movie is honestly gold. Not good. GOLD. If I could have an edit without the unbearable parts, I would.

Although, something occurred to me about halfway through. We had a preview for The Lego Movie 2 before the movie played. Why they had trailers at a free screening, well, it's obvious that the company that brought you The Lego Movie likes to cash every cow in the pasture. Anyway, I love the wit of The Lego Movie. I adore it so much, I give it a pass at its lows. Maybe, I would've done the same for Teen Titans Go to the Movies...except unlike The Lego Movie, I had an attachment to what the movie was based on. I grew up loving the Teen Titans show. And Teen Titans Go defecates on the original's image. So maybe if I hadn't had this attachment, I'd give Teen Titans Go a pass as well. Then again, I don't remember The Lego Movie having 2 separate instances where a fart joke took a solid minute. But who knows.

BONUS:

This movie has a short beforehand. I would look up the name of it, but frankly, it isn't worth it. It is essentially the first half of The Killing Joke movie. Only this time, it is made to sell toys to little girls. And, thankfully, leaves out the sex scene between Batgirl and Batman in The Killing Joke. Sorry if that is a spoiler, but I'd consider it a warning if you were unware.

Thank you for reading! After giving me such conflicting feelings, I'd love to hear yours about the movie in the comments below!

Searching

Hey Readerinos!

Image result for searching movie poster 2018

This year I signed up to see advanced screenings and was lucky enough to go to a showing of Searching back in June. I'm sure you all of seen the ads for it. It's one of those everyone has at least seen or heard something about, but very few remember what the movie is actually called. I've seen a lot of people get intrigued by the trailer that shows a movie that uses several media platforms that we use on a typical basis rather than traditional cinematography. (Lot of big words for that sentence, I know. I'm just one of those people who like to use big words to emphasize my photosynthesis.) (hopefully some of you will get that joke) ( a set of parentheses inside a set of parenthesis?? Is this some sort of obscure Deadpool reference??) .

Anywho...The story follows a man named David Kim, who takes it into his own hands to search for his missing daughter by following the clues she's left online.

The concept had me intrigued, but I'll admit, it wasn't likely that I was gonna see it in the theatres. To be honest, what really convinced me to was seeing that it had been awarded by Sundance. Yes, the concept had me intrigued, but it reminded me a little too much of the movie Unfriended from a few years back, which was also takes place on a computer screen. Unfortunately for Unfriended, it used the concept as a gimmick to get people in the seats rather than having a story to tell. I was afraid Searching was going to do the same. But it did look much more promising than Unfriended did at the get-go, and it was a free advanced screening, so I couldn't say no.

Another concern of mine was that he would be trying to be more of a hero than he had to, by going on this wild goose chase rather than call the police. I was also afraid of the idea of idea relying solely on using a teenage girl's computer. Now I'm technically a teenage girl myself, but I AM NOT A FAN OF MAINSTREAM REFERENCES. Unless they're in mockery of this generation. I'm just not a big fan of it. So I was afraid of an abundance of tweets and vine references.

If any of you had these concerns, fear not.

1. The use of media is actually very clever and does a great job of moving the story, rather than covering up a lack of story due to the premise being based solely on a gimmick.

2. He does, in fact, call the police, and is actually instructed by them to find whatever he can. Although, he does play more of a hero part than simply doing as he is told, and does take more into his own hands-but if you want more than that, you'll just have to see it.

3. I can only think of maybe 1 or 2 mainstream 'references', if they could even be considered as such, and I found both of them hysterical (which they were meant to be).

Pop it?:  I was very pleasantly surprised. Not only did it not suck, it genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. It is thrilling in its own special way, while properly using a creative storytelling unique that is both innovative and alluring. Crime thrillers such as this can easily be predictable, and it is a challenge for storytellers and filmmakers alike to keep this from happening. And yes, this movie definitely pulls off the not predictable card. At times you are so sure you know, but it keeps changing the game on you, which should truly be applauded.

Toss it?: I will have you be warned, there is a little bit of...reading (GASP!). But frankly if you've made it this far in reading this post, you should be absoultely fine. There is not a TON...well, maybe there is. I dunno. More than the usual movie, but it is made to be a bit more engaging than your typical title card. I remember it mainly being headlines and stuff like that.

Also, tad bit of spoilers coming up, which I will put in red here, and will stop at the green,

SPOILERISH: It's pretty unrealistic. I can't say much as the movie isn't out yet, but the luck they have in this movie is sadly more than it is likely to be found in real life. However, things aren't so fluffy or whatever the whole time. So even though it's a little unrealistic, it's realistic enough to keep you watching. And it is a movie after all, we're not exactly looking for reality are we?

SPOILERS HAVE ENDED! I KNOW THIS MAY BE A BIT OF SCROLLING, BUT I TRIED TO HAVE THIS OUT OF SIGHT FROM THE 'SPOILER' SECTION. AND SINCE THIS IS OUT BEFORE THE MOVIE, THE SPOILERS ARE HARDLY SPOILERS. BUT STILL.

The Verdict: I'm sure it's no surprise that it's a pop it! This movie is definitely entertaining and worth a watch. If you had the same concerns as me, I promise you, you have nothing to worry about.

One last time for those of you who remember the premise and not the title, the movie is Searching, it is rated PG-13, and will be out (in the U.S at least) on August 31st.

Thank you for reading! You know you really didn't have to do that ;-)

Remember Me?

Hey everyone!

Remember me? I know, I forgot about me too. I have kicked myself for missing out on so many posts these past...4 years? YIKES. Well I have plenty to tell you about from all that time we missed, or I missed. There's plenty of movies to review, things to talk about, stories to share, and- I have some experience in the filmmaking field I'm willing to share.

If you're reading this, thank you, I dunno how you stumbled here, but I promise I have plenty to add to this blog in the upcoming. Not sure if that sentence works, but Grammarly has not notified me of it not working. Strangely, it did point out the word Grammarly. And no, they're not a sponsor. The only bloggers who get sponsors are ones who actually post stuff, and have readers. And if you happen to be a reader at this moment, Thanks! And hopefully you'll be back here to visit my upcoming posts.

Thanks for reading! Sorry I abandoned you along with my aspirations!

(There'll be more posts coming up...in case that wasn't clear. In fact, there'll be one up tomorrow for a movie that isn't out yet. OOOoooOooO)

Coffee & Cream: Yet Another (and hopefully better) Original Piece

Hey Everybody!

Today I have yet another original short film for you. Personally, I find this to be my strongest piece yet.

The idea came to me when I was walking down the hall to the shower. Why do all my ideas come to me when I’m walking by my bathroom? I guess ideas just flow out of me. Actually, scratch that, that was a terrible pun.

Anyway, I was thinking of two characters in a story I have been writing, and the dynamic between them. I imagined that male character thinking of the female character, and describing her as “Having a burnt taste that shows no intention of leaving me”. This meaning that she is very bitter, and seems like she doesn’t want to put up with him. But she never leaves. It also perfectly describes coffee, how the flavor doesn’t leave your tongue for quite a while.

I liked the idea, and kept thinking about it. How the woman was very dark and moody, and the man was bright and wishful. Two complete opposites that really shouldn’t put up with each other, but do.

Clearly, the woman character was Coffee. I thought of her male counterpart as someone she kept denying that she needed her life. She always talks about how being alone and shutting off emotions is the way to go. And mocks him for being so ridiculous. She sees him as naive and peppy. Or so she acts that way.

Now cream, the male character, is intrigued by Coffee, but doesn’t believe he should get pulled down in her bitterness. He is what adds light, or sweetness, to her life. And Coffee is what gives strength in his.

But of them are stubborn in their own way. Coffee wants to have strength, Cream wants happiness. Which are both good qualities, but neither are good at balancing them...without each other at least.

I shot this film with DeeDee, my Canon 70D. The lines were recorded in a fully equipped studio, which I would very much like to thank for the opportunity.

Without further ado, I present to you, Coffee & Cream:

Thank you all for reading/ watching, and be sure to check my Youtube channel: A Good Reason Film Production for more of my films. There's not much as of now, but I have lots of ideas and have all the intention to grow.

Summer Bloodbath of 2015

Hey Everybody!

So I have been thinking about making videos in place of or with this blog. I tried it alone, but I got camera shy. Then I did some movie reviews with a friend. And then the camera broke...of course. Now that I have my new camera, I decided to have a bit of a redo.

This video was supposed to come sooner, but I had SO much trouble exporting it for whatever reason. And now it has been successfully exported, and uploaded to Youtube.

So here is me and some of my film geek friends discussing the Bloodbath of Summer 2015.

You can find their personnel (and by personal I don't mean 'personal', if you catch my drift) here:
